Copyright and DMCA policy
Effective 23 October 2026
We respect the rights of poets, writers, musicians and other creators, and expect people who use Alfaaz to do the same. We respond to clear notices of claimed copyright infringement under the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512) and similar laws in other countries, including India's Copyright Act 1957 and Information Technology Rules.
What this covers
Reels people make in Alfaaz stay on their own devices; we do not host or publish them. This policy covers content that is shown or made available through Alfaaz itself: the classics library, community and featured reels, templates, music, and anything else we display in the app or on getalfaaz.app. For a reel someone posted on Instagram, YouTube or another platform, please also report it to that platform.
Sending a notice of infringement
To be valid, a notice must be in writing and include all of the following:
- Your physical or electronic signature (typing your full legal name is enough for email), as the copyright owner or a person authorised to act for them.
- Identification of the copyrighted work you say is infringed, for example the poem's title, its first line, the poet, and where it was first published. For several works, a representative list.
- Identification of the material you say infringes, with enough detail for us to find it: where it appears in Alfaaz (for example, the classics library entry or the community reel), a screenshot, and any link.
- Your name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or are authorised to act on the owner's behalf.
Send it to our designated copyright agent:
Copyright Agent, Alfaaz
[legal entity name]
[postal address]
Email: copyright@getalfaaz.app
Phone: [phone]
Notices missing any of these elements may not be acted on. Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), anyone who knowingly makes a material misrepresentation that material is infringing may be liable for damages, including costs and attorneys' fees. If you are unsure whether a use is infringing, for example a short quotation with the poet named, please seek legal advice before sending a notice.
What we do
- We acknowledge a complete notice within 24 hours when possible.
- We remove or disable access to the material promptly once the notice is complete, usually within 72 hours.
- Where we can identify the person who provided the material, we tell them it was removed and send them a copy of the notice (your contact details may be included, as the law allows).
Counter-notice
If material you provided was removed and you believe that was a mistake, or that you have the right to use it, you can send a counter-notice to the same agent. It must include:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the material removed and where it appeared before removal.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if you are outside the United States, any judicial district in which we may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice or their agent.
When we receive a valid counter-notice, we forward it to the person who sent the original notice. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they have filed a court action to restrain the use, we may restore the material 10 to 14 business days after receiving the counter-notice.
Repeat infringers
We will, in appropriate circumstances, disable or end the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe others' copyrights, and remove their access to community features.
Outside the United States
If you are outside the United States, you can send a notice with the same information to the same address; we review it under the law that applies. Users in India can also write to our Grievance Officer, [name], at support@getalfaaz.app; complaints are acknowledged within 24 hours and resolved within 15 days.
Other concerns
For trademark, privacy, impersonation or harmful content, write to support@getalfaaz.app. These are not handled through the DMCA process.
